Not Just a Day Out: The Benefits of Day Care for the Elderly

St Mary's Collective Day Care Centre

At St Mary’s Collective, we believe that growing older shouldn’t mean losing your connection to your community, your ability to meet new friends or the opportunity to try new things. That’s why, following the success of our Day Care Centre in Kingston Upon Thames, we are now launching a new Day Care Centre in Fleet, Hampshire and are excited to offer Fleet’s elderly community a safe, welcoming space to enjoy their day in good company.

Our day care services go beyond supervision. Our dedicated team create opportunities for our members to diversify their day-to-day routine, nurturing their emotional and physical wellbeing and offering guilt-free care for families.

Here are just some of the benefits of elderly day care:
Accessible Activities and a Structured Routine:

Our day care centres are designed to engage our clients, both mentally and physically, resulting in increased independence, self-esteem and supporting mental clarity. Whether through arts and crafts, bingo or gentle exercise classes, we offer new opportunities for all our clients and ensure that each day is diverse and exciting. Yet, though all our days are different, we’re committed to maintaining a sense of routine and our structured daily timetables work to reassure clients who may be confused or nervous.

Socialisation and Mental Health:

Offering opportunities for socialisation is at the heart of our day care centres. Alongside key cognitive benefits such as, improved memory, reduced stress and brain stimulation, frequent socialisation is proven to improve mental health and boost self-esteem.

Socialisation can reduce feelings of loneliness and depression, which can be common among elderly adults. We strive to create a welcoming community, where our clients feel a sense of belonging, and can share a laugh or a story with others.

Hot Meals and Nutrition:

Good nutrition is crucial, whatever your age. The vital vitamins and minerals that we consume through good quality food is especially essential for elderly adults to prevent bone and muscle deterioration, support a strong immune system and act as an important energy source.

We proudly serve hot, well-balanced meals because we understand that some of our clients may struggle to prepare nutritious meals for themselves. Whether its fish and chips or chickpea curry, our meals are healthy, delicious and offer our clients an opportunity to eat socially.

Support for Family Caregivers:

We often talk about how our day care centres benefit our clients, but the impact on the client’s family members or care network is equally as important. Whilst it’s rewarding, caring for a loved one can be demanding and tiring. Our day care centres offer family members crucial respite, enabling them to work, run errands and handle everything else life throws at them. We offer families peace of mind, knowing that their loved one is in a safe, stimulating environment that is built for them.

Join our community!

St Mary’s Collective is here to ensure that every individual’s unique journey is met with compassion and care. Whether you or your loved on need to regain confidence after a health setback or simply need some extra support, our day care centres are purpose-built, safe environments for the elderly to enjoy.
